2. Visit Musk Ox Farm

If you’ve never encountered a musk ox, you’re in for a real treat at this Alaskan agritourism destination. Musk Ox Farm in Palmer is a nonprofit committed to domesticating these Ice Age mammals. Yes, you read that correctly. These massive animals used to wander around with mammoths and saber tooth tigers. This particular farm runs guided tours where you can get close to these magnificent creatures, but they also host community events and have a gift shop full of fiber, yarn and garments made from musk ox wool, also known as qiviut.

3. Book a World-Class Finishing Trip

Fishing in Alaska is a legendary experience, and many tourists are itching to get out on the water for at least a day while they’re on vacation. Alaska Fish On provides the guide and the tools you need to catch anything from salmon to halibut. For the advanced anglers out there, they offer a trophy trout fishing trip at a portion of the price you might pay elsewhere. You can also choose from day trips or fishing packages, some of which include up to five days of fishing, fish processing, lodging and more. Alaska fishing doesn’t get much better than that.
