10 Weirdest State Fair Foods Across the U.S.

Rides, exhibitions and friendly competition await at just about every state fair in the country. But we all know the real reason people have flocked to these beloved events year after year since the 1800s: the fun, funky and often fried food. Here are a few of the wackiest treats you’ll find at state fairs across the country.
1. Deep-Fried Scorpion
Arizona State Fair
If your eyebrows just shot up, you aren’t alone. This is hands-down one of the strangest foods you’ll encounter at a state fair – or anywhere, for that matter. But sure enough, you are likely to find these served plain or dipped in chocolate at the Arizona State Fair.

2. Pickle Pops
Kansas State Fair
It may not be deep-fried, but pickle pops are just odd enough to entice people to hand over a few dollars to give them a try at the Kansas State Fair. These are essentially pickle-flavored popsicles, which are said to be both refreshing and a little outlandish.
3. Deep-Fried Jello
Utah State Fair
It turns out you can, in fact, deep fry just about anything, including Jello. If you don’t believe us, take a trip to the Utah State Fair and see it for yourself. You might even find yourself intrigued enough to try it.

4. Reindeer Hotdogs
Alaska State Fair
If this doesn’t scream Alaska, we’re not sure what does. But you’re more than likely going to stumble upon these quirky hot dogs if you find yourself wandering around the Alaska State Fair this year. To be fair, reindeer are far more common than cows and pigs in the Alaskan climate.
5. Krispy Kreme Burger
Mississippi State Fair
Just when you think you’ve heard it all, you find out that the Mississippi State Fair is famous for serving Krispy Kreme burgers. People say they’re a hit with the sweet and savory crowd, with a beef burger tucked between two glazed donuts.

6. Comet Corn
Minnesota State Fair
Okay, this one is just cool. And we mean that literally. Made with liquid nitrogen, this one-of-a-kind caramel corn from the Minnesota State Fair is delightfully cold and creates what resembles comet dust when you take a bite and exhale.
7. Deep-Fried S’mores
Wisconsin State Fair
Back at it with the deep-fried foods, this is a popular dessert item found at many state fairs around the country, including the Wisconsin State Fair. It’s so popular, in fact, that you probably already know what it is – and have likely even tried one for yourself.

8. Deep-Fried Bubblegum
State Fair of Texas
We’re all pretty familiar with the fried food options out there these days, but this one at the State Fair of Texas might make you scratch your head. Deep-fried bubblegum is actually marshmallow extract dipped in a bubblegum-flavored batter – which is then deep-fried, of course.
9. Deep-Fried Coffee
Oklahoma State Fair
It may be marketed as deep-fried coffee at the Oklahoma State Fair, but they aren’t actually dropping coffee into the fryer here. These are actually coffee-infused donut balls. Same idea, but arguably more appealing since you could, in fact, serve them on a stick as well.

10. Funnel Cake Ale
State Fair of Texas
Most people would declare funnel cake to be the most iconic fair food out there. But sometimes you just want a nice, cold drink on a hot summer day. The fine folks at the State Fair of Texas found a way to give you both with this funnel cake-inspired beer served with a powdered sugar rim, of course.
