Twizzlers

Known for their bright red color and twisted strands, Twizzlers made their debut in 1929 and have remained a popular treat among children and adults ever since. While red is the traditional and original color, you can now find Twizzlers in a variety of flavors and colors.

The original Twizzlers were invented by the Young and Smylie company, one of the oldest confectionery firms in the country. But it wasn’t until the 1960s that these candies grew in popularity. Now, the masses have made it abundantly clear that this candy is an American staple. In 2018, in fact, Twizzlers sales in the United States skyrocketed to a mind-boggling $218.4 million dollars.

Rumor also has it that when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon, his second comment was, “I could go for some Twizzlers right now.” Is it true? We may never know, but you can bet The Hershey Company, which now owns Twizzlers, likes to think so!
