Hersey’s Chocolate Bar

When Milton Hershey attended the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago, he was already a thriving caramel candy businessman. But the exposition piqued his interest in the art of making chocolate. He purchased German machinery, shipped it to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and began working on coating his caramel candies in chocolate.

But as the demand for chocolates grew, he decided to go all in. He launched the Hershey Chocolate Company, produced the first Hershey’s milk chocolate bar in 1900 and never looked back. Considered the pioneer of producing milk chocolate on a commercial scale, we have Hershey to thank for transforming what was once a luxury for the upper class into a treat for the masses.
