5 Oklahoma Agritourism Spots You Don’t Want to Miss

Sooner football and sweeping landscapes might be among the first images that come to mind when you think about Oklahoma, but did you know the state is also a major player in wheat, hay, cotton and peanut production? In addition to crops and livestock herds, Oklahoma is also home to peach orchards, oat producers, and plenty of unique and interesting places for exploring the world of agriculture. Planning a trip to the Sooner State? Here are our top five Oklahoma agritourism spots to check out while you’re there.

1. Lakeview Lavender Farm

You may be surprised to learn there are lavender farms in Oklahoma. But once you step foot on Lakeview Lavender Farm, we have a feeling you’ll never want to leave. The never-ending acres of purple flowers present the perfect opportunity for a quick photo session and some natural aromatherapy while winding through the pick-your-own fields. You can even pack a picnic lunch on the property before wandering through the gift shop.

2. Livesay Orchards

Did you know that Porter, Oklahoma, is considered the official peach capital of the state? It’s no wonder that Livesay Orchards decided to set up shop there. This beautiful farm grows several different peach varieties and often has these plump and juicy fruits ready for you to purchase at their on-site market between June and October. While visiting just about any time of year is worthwhile, we recommend planning a trip around the Annual Porter Peach Festival, which complements the fun-filled festivities in downtown Porter.

3. Hoot Owl Ranch

In addition to its charming name, Hoot Owl Ranch offers visitors an eye-opening experience of American Indian rock art and artifacts. You may even get lucky enough to see some dinosaur tracks. The ranch house, which is made of hand-carved sandstone, was constructed on the property back in the 1800s. Between the rich heritage of the house and the natural beauty of the canyon where it sits, this is a one-of-a-kind Oklahoma destination you don’t want to miss.

4. Sorghum Mill Christmas Tree & Blackberry Farm

Have you ever been to a combination sorghum and blackberry farm? What about one that includes Christmas trees? Based on the name alone, it should come as no surprise that Sorghum Mill Christmas Tree & Blackberry Farm in Edmond is a horse of a different color. From the 40,000 trees that cover more than seven fields in the winter to the pick-your-own blackberries in the summer, this is a unique destination that is well worth a visit no matter what time of year you happen to be in Oklahoma.

5. The Farm on Fishmarket

Summertime in Oklahoma is even better when you spend the morning picking fresh strawberries from the field at the Farm on Fishmarket. This is a family-friendly agritourism destination that invites you to pick up a basket and embark on an exploration of berries that are great for eating fresh, baking into a pie or canning for future use. While their berries are some of the best around, you can also find everything from freshly laid eggs to seasonal produce like tomatoes, onions and carrots.
