Ingredients

  • 1 puff pastry sheet (9 by 9 inches)
  • 13 ounces smoked sausage (usually 2 per package or 1 large ring)
  • 12 spears fresh asparagus, ends trimmed and halved
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon seasoned salt or herb blend

Sauce

  • ⅓ cup Dijon mustard
  • ⅓ cup sorghum

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Thaw pastry sheet and roll out from center until doubled in size. Cut into 12 long strips.
  2. Cut each sausage lengthwise, making a flat surface for the bottom. Place the flat surface on a cutting board and cut into 12 even pieces. Place each piece of sausage and 4 pieces of asparagus on top of a pastry strip. Wrap the pastry in a spiral, covering all but the ends of the sausage and asparagus. Place on a baking sheet. Sprinkle with onion powder and seasonings.
  3. Bake for 22 to 25 minutes, until pastry is very golden brown and crispy.
  4. To make the sauce, add mustard and sorghum to a small bowl and stir until combined.
  5. To serve, drizzle the sauce on top of the pigs in blankets or dip the slightly cooled bundles in it.
