Ingredients

Brownie Base

  • ¼ cup butter
  • 1 4-ounce package German sweet chocolate
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¼ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped

Coconut Topping

  • ⅓ cups shredded sweetened coconut
  • ½ cup pecans, chopped
  • ¼ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • ¼ cup evaporated milk

Instructions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease an 8-inch square baking pan. Set aside.
  2. Combine butter and chocolate in a large glass bowl. Microwave on high for 1 minute or until butter is melted. Remove and stir until chocolate is completely melted.
  3. Whisk in sugar, vanilla and eggs until smooth. Gently fold in flour, baking powder and pecans.
  4. Spread brownie batter into prepared pan. Set aside.
  5. Prepare coconut topping: Combine all ingredients in a small bowl, stirring until thoroughly combined. Gently spoon coconut topping over the brownie base, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until a toothpick inserted into center comes out with fudgy crumbs. Cool completely in pan on wire rack before cutting into bars using a sharp, thin knife.
