Homemade Peppermint Patties

Rich dark chocolate and cool peppermint make a delicious combination in our Homemade Peppermint Patties. Whip up a double batch and you’ll have plenty for stuffing stockings and gifting to friends and family this holiday season.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 teaspoons peppermint extract
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups powdered sugar, plus more for sprinkling
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 5 ounces dark chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • Crushed peppermint candies, for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the sweetened condensed milk, butter, and peppermint and vanilla extracts with a hand or stand mixer mix until combined. Add the powdered sugar and salt and mix until the filling mixture starts to come together. It will be sticky. 
  2. Generously sprinkle a piece of parchment paper with powdered sugar. Place the filling mixture on the parchment paper and roll it out into a disc about ¼-inch thick. Chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes or up to 4 hours. 
  3. Using a 1-inch circular cookie cutter, cut the disc into 32 patties. 
  4. In a bowl, combine the chocolate and oil and microwave on high until chocolate is melted. Allow chocolate to cool slightly before dipping the patties to avoid melting the filling.
  5. Place the cut-out patty filling on a fork and dip it into the chocolate. Use a knife to slide it off the fork onto a piece of parchment paper. Repeat with remaining patties. Top each patty with crushed candies, if desired.
  6. Allow patties to set on the counter until hardened. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
