7. Hay

$675.2 million in cash receipts

Texas ranks as the nation’s No. 1 producer of hay. Farmers across the state harvested more than 4.6 million acres of hay in 2023, plus 90,000 acres of alfalfa. Texas produced more than 8.7 million tons of hay that year and 468,000 tons of alfalfa.
