Most of the avocados grown in Hawaii are a hybrid variety called Sharwil. Many avocado lovers consider these to be one of the tastiest varieties, but unfortunately, you won’t find them in any of the other 49 states. USDA import regulations don’t allow them to enter the mainland to prevent a potential invasive pest from entering along with them. So if you want to try a Sharwil avocado for yourself, you’ll have to book a trip to the Aloha state.
