Macadamia Nuts

According to USDA’s 2017 Census of Agriculture, macadamia nuts ranked as Hawaii’s No. 2 commodity with a production value of $53.9 million. Originally from Australia, the macadamia nut tree arrived in Hawaii in 1882. At first, Hawaiians grew the trees mostly for ornamental purposes until the state’s first macadamia nut plantation opened in in 1921. Now, Hawaii has over 700 macadamia nut farms and supplies about 90% of the entire world’s macadamia nuts.
