Caraway (Carum carvi)

Native to western Asia, Europe and North Africa, caraway is sometimes referred to as meridian fennel and Persian cumin. The plant resembles other members of the carrot family in appearance, with finely divided, feathery leaves with thread-like divisions. The main flower stem is tall with small white or pink flowers. Usually used as a whole, the fruits have a pungent, anise-like flavor and aroma. The most popular uses for caraway seed are breads, soups, sauces and vegetables.

Try it with our Hearty Lentil Soup recipe.
