Ingredients

  • 2 cups orange juice (pulp-free)
  • ¼ cup lemon juice
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 2 drops red food coloring
  • 5 drops yellow food coloring
  • 3 tablespoons black sanding sugar (or crushed black nonpareils)
  • 1 cup tonic water, chilled
  • 1 lemon wedge
  • 1 blood orange, sliced, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, combine the orange juice, lemon juice and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer and add the food coloring. Continue simmering over medium-low heat for 3 minutes.
  2. Remove mixture from heat and set aside to cool slightly, then transfer to a pitcher and refrigerate for at least 2 hours until chilled.
  3. Place black sanding sugar (or crushed nonpareils) in a small bowl. Using a lemon wedge, wet the rim of 8 lowball glasses or Champagne flutes. Dip wet rims into the sugar or crushed nonpareils to create a black sugared rim.
  4. Remove juice mixture from the refrigerator and stir in the tonic water until combined.
  5. Pour 4 ounces of chilled punch into each glass. Garnish each mocktail with an orange slice and serve immediately.

Tips & Notes

Turn this mocktail into a cocktail by substituting chilled Champagne for the tonic water.
