Ingredients
- 18 ounces (1.5 packages) semisweet chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil
- ½ cup hot chocolate mix of choice
- ½ cup mini marshmallows (or as many as you like)
- Crushed candy canes (optional)
- Holiday sprinkles (optional)
Other Supplies:
- Cellophane bags and string or ribbon, for gifting
For Serving:
- ¾ cup milk
Instructions
- Line a 12-cup regular-size muffin tin with paper liners.
- In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine the chocolate chips and coconut oil. Microwave on high in 30-second increments, stirring between each, until mixture is completely melted and smooth.
- Spoon 2 teaspoons of the melted chocolate mixture into the bottom of each muffin liner and spread it in a thin layer up and around the sides of the liner with the back of a spoon. Set aside for about 15 minutes to allow chocolate to harden.
- Spoon 2 teaspoons of the hot chocolate mix into each chocolate-lined muffin cup, then top each with more melted chocolate to cover the hot chocolate mix completely. (It will look like a peanut butter cup, but with hot chocolate mix inside.)
- While the chocolate is still warm and melty, decorate the tops of each hot chocolate bomb with mini marshmallows, crushed candy canes or sprinkles, if desired. Set aside until chocolate is completely set.
- Package hot chocolate bombs in cellophane bags tied with string or ribbon for gifting, attaching the serving instructions in step 7 below.
- To serve: Heat ¾ cup milk over the stovetop until steaming or in the microwave for about 90 seconds. Pour into a mug. Remove hot chocolate bomb from paper liner and place in the mug of warm milk. Allow to melt, then stir to combine and enjoy.
