Soup in a Jar Gift
Give the gift of a homemade meal with Soup in a Jar. Fill jars with all the dry ingredients needed for a hearty and flavorful bean soup, then all that’s left to do is add water, stir in a can of tomatoes and simmer.

Ingredients
- ⅓ cup dry pinto beans
- ⅓ cup split peas
- ⅓ cup dry navy beans
- ⅓ cup dry black beans
- ⅓ cup dry chickpeas
- 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon mustard powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
- 2 bay leaves
- 1 vegetable bouillon cube
Other Supplies:
- 1 wide-mouth pint-size jar, for gifting
- Ribbon or string, for gifting (optional)
For Serving:
- 14 ounces (1 can) fire-roasted tomatoes
Instructions
- In the jar, layer all ingredients in the order listed. Place lid on jar and decorate with ribbon or string for gifting, if desired, attaching the cooking instructions in step 2 below.
- To cook: In a large pot, combine all jar contents with 5 cups water and a can of fire-roasted tomatoes. Stir to combine, then bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 2 hours or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally. Add more water while cooking if the soup gets too thick. Discard bay leaves before serving.
