  • ⅓ cup split peas
  • ⅓ cup dry navy beans
  • ⅓ cup dry black beans
  • ⅓ cup dry chickpeas
  • 1 tablespoon dried minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon mustard powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 vegetable bouillon cube

Other Supplies:

  • 1 wide-mouth pint-size jar, for gifting
  • Ribbon or string, for gifting (optional)

For Serving:

  • 14 ounces (1 can) fire-roasted tomatoes

Instructions

  1. In the jar, layer all ingredients in the order listed. Place lid on jar and decorate with ribbon or string for gifting, if desired, attaching the cooking instructions in step 2 below.
  2. To cook: In a large pot, combine all jar contents with 5 cups water and a can of fire-roasted tomatoes. Stir to combine, then bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, reduce heat to low and simmer for about 2 hours or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally. Add more water while cooking if the soup gets too thick. Discard bay leaves before serving.
